6. Documentation for Transparent Entities

For certain transparent entities such as trusts and hedge funds, tax authorities require information about the underlying beneficiaries to ensure they qualify for tax treaty benefits. In those instances, underlying investors must be disclosed so that GlobeTax can collect the required documentation (for instance, Certificates of Residency) and adhere to information disclosure requirements when filing tax reclaims.

To disclose this information, the entity must complete an Investor or Beneficiary Listing. This template requires disclosing the name, tax ID number, physical mailing address, entity type, and percentage of ownership for each underlying investor. Updated Investor Listings are required each year. To begin the service onboarding process, the entity must provide a Listing for each year since inception, or at most, 5 years of historical data.

After receiving the Investor Listing, GlobeTax may generate and provide documents for underlying investors to complete and sign. Such documents will include Certificate of Residency request forms and Powers of Attorney. Additional documentation may be requested depending on the entity type of the underlying investor.
